Here's what's happening in our creative space, the Sail Loft, above the NaviStitch shop on Manningtree High Street over the coming weeks...
In the Sail Loft...
We're in the second week of our Ian Longhurst exhibition - we've loved having his incredibly detailed bird paintings in our Sail Loft, and having Ian himself in to meet you all at the weekend. He'll be back this coming Saturday, which is also the last day of the exhibition, if you'd like to meet the artist!
And then...
Do you fancy learning something new? Well, you've got a choice of three traditional skills workshops with our fabulous maker Pamela Hatswell over the next couple of weeks, from 19th to 29th April. Pamela is exhibiting her knitwear designs alongside amazing artist Kay Lucas, but is also offering workshops in tatting, beaded jewellery and macrame. Take a look at our calendar for more details and how to book.
Here's an exciting thing...
We're aware that, for most of us, budgets are tight at the moment so we've had a bit of an epiphany: We're holding an 'Affordable Art Fair' for the month of May - from 3rd to 27th. We've asked some of our best loved artists to bring us a selection of their work, originals and prints, framed and unframed, that can be priced under £100 so there'll be something for everyone to enjoy and for every pocket. Take a look at our calendar for more details:
And then it's June....
June's looking really exciting - we've got Jayson Fletcher and his Wood Carved Fish for 2 weeks; we've got Wisdom Art Prints in our Sail Loft for 2 weeks and then Art Around the Walls - an art trail around Manningtree and Mistley complete the first 6 months of the year, and takes us into July. We've also got Manningtree Earth Day, Fathers' Day and Manningtree Pride Festival throughout the month... we're going to be exhausted!
And finally...
The NaviStitch Sail Loft Summer Exhibition is in its embryonic phase - planned as a mixed selection of Artists working in a variety of mediums. Saturday 8th July to Saturday 29th July, 10-4 Wednesday to Saturday. Applications will be open from 8th May - keep your eyes peeled here if you fancy being a part of it!
As always, I'm working on commission pieces for people with happy coastal memories or seaside stories that a piece of nautical stitched art would help to remember. Why not think about a bespoke commission? You tell me about the memory and I'll look through my extensive collection of nautical charts. We'll discuss the image or the craft and the thread colour/s and I'll get to work - take a look.
Until next time, I wish you calm waters and plain sailing
Sam
