What's on and coming up...

Here's what's happening in our creative space, the Sail Loft, above the NaviStitch shop on Manningtree High Street over the coming weeks...

This week...

It's the second, and final week of local contemporary landscape painter Sarah Milne's exhibition 'A Change in the Air'. If you can make it to Manningtree before Saturday, we'd love to see you.

Next week...

From 12th to 15th October, we've got something completely different - an incredibly exciting exhibition from local Manningtree artist, MATTRéSS. In his own words, after having a break from watercolour painting, he took it back up again in 2018, this time using acrylics and canvas and "I now find I enjoy the freedom of 'making it up' as I go far more than the constraints that watercolour landscapes impose. Other than choosing a few colours to make the initial 'mess', the rest is all whatever comes from what I see!"

If you get a chance to come and visit, this exhibition is bright, colourful and strikingly different.

Learn something new...

We've got 3 workshops coming up, all of them can be booked through our calendar:

Making Photo Zines with photographer Mike Klencher on 22nd October; Lino Printing with Sue Bedford on 28th October and a fabulous Advent Deer Sewing workshop with Maekandoo on 12th November

Coming up...

From 19th to 22nd October, we're delighted to have Wisdom Art Prints exhibiting in our Sail Loft. Tiptree based, family run creative studio, they illustrate and produce the highest quality greeting cards and art prints in the timeless art deco style, reminiscent of travel posters from a bygone age.

From 26th to 29th we've got another collaborative exhibition - this time from Poppy Curtis - a young talent to watch (this is her first exhibition) - and Sue Bedford, aka Dotty Bee - a small, independent brand creating watercolours and paintings.

And then it's November!

Can you believe that these are our last two exhibitions for 2022 - where has the time gone?!

2nd -12th November we're bringing you an exhibition from photographer Tazzy Bro: 'It's on Your Doorstep'. The work featured will be of Manningtree and the local area so we're looking forward to this one.

Local artist David Downs then brings an exhibition to our Sail Loft from 16th-19th November. He describes himself as "... a brilliant landscape painter who amplifies the sense of place and time through the lens of autism." We love his work and are delighted that he's back with us this year.

And finally...

From 23rd November we'll be holding our Christmas Pop-up Shop and will be open every day from then until Christmas Eve. We're then also opening from 28th December to New Year's Eve too (well, you may want to spend your Christmas money!)

We're delighted that we've had lots of enquiries already from some amazingly talented people - we'll be hosting around 30 of them to bring you the best festive shopping experience around. However, we still have a few places left, and we're particularly short of soap and candle makers - find out more about the event or how to apply to be part of it here

More next time...

... But never miss out on any of the events held in our Sail Loft - take a look at our online calendar to both see what's happening, and to book any of our workshops.

If you're an artist or maker and are interested in hiring the Sail Loft for your exhibition, workshop or pop-up event, take a look at details of our space and how to book. We have made a few changes to make it even easier to exhibit with us, please do get in touch if you would like to know more.

Important note...

I fully support the postal workers' cause and their need to strike, and was recently interviewed by @BBC5Live and also contacted by the Harwich and Manningtree Standard for my views as a greeting card designer/seller.

Because of what's going on, I'm getting ready for Christmas so that people can order in advance and not get caught out. Christmas cards are now available in my website shop and on Etsy - I fully expect there to be delays and so I'd advise all of my lovely customers to order cards and commissions as early as possible.

Until next time, I wish you calm waters and plain sailing

Sam
