Excitingly, we're heading towards three weeks (not exactly a month but that wouldn't have helped with alliteration would it?!), of our Maritime Pop-Up Event in the Sail Loft.
Our maritime market will be a great event for gift buying and treating yourself to coastal crafts and all things related to our beautiful seas and shores.
Here's an example of what will be available: these hand painted beach huts mounted on our SS Pegu wood are just beautiful and a fabulous reminder of our incredible seasides.
This week...
We're sure you won't want to miss super-talented artist Amanda Clement Robinson who's exhibiting her marine-inspired work in our Sail Loft until Saturday. Amanda's work uses various media and incorporates such items as vintage musical scores and maritime charts. Her work will appeal to a wide variety of people - call in if you can.
Looking ahead...
We've got several new exhibitions and workshops booked into our Sail Loft for the remainder of this year (can you believe that we're talking about the end of the year already!?):
September
17th - Photographer Mike Klencher is teaching a Gel Printing & Alternative Mixed Media workshop from 10:30am-1:30pm (just £5 per person) - book here
21st-24th - Anne Plummer and Maekandoo are hosting a joint exhibition - more news on this next time - or keep an eye on our calendar
October
8th: Another workshop from photographer Mike Klencher - this time from 10:30am-1:30pm you'll be creating a variety of zines using different techniques and materials. £5 per person, book here
From 26th to 29th we're delighted to be hosting a joint exhibition from Poppy Curtis and Dotty Bee. This is Poppy's first exhibition and she's certainly a young talent to watch. Dotty Bee creates prints, watercolours and paintings. For more info, take a look at our calendar.
November
From 9th to 12th, we'll be hosting an exhibition from Tazzy Bro Photography. We're looking forward to this one as all images are of Manningtree and the surrounding area.
David Downes will be exhibiting his work in our Sail Loft from 16th to 19th. A great landscape artist, many of David's works are of local scenes - take a look at his website to find out more about him as an artist
And then...
From 23rd November 24th December we'll have our Christmas pop-up shop. Just like last year, we'll host this fabulously festive event and will be joined by the best in local artists and makers bringing you a whole host of delights to make Christmas shopping the best experience!
In other news...
We have 2 exciting pieces of news for any artists, makers, creative tutors and people with ideas for pop-up events:
We're taking bookings for 2023 (although you can still book for October or any other free weeks)
We're also now able to offer exhibitions where you, as an artist, aren't able to be present the whole time.
Take a look at our terms and consider a solo event, or even a collaboration. If you'd like to do a joint exhibition, we can also help you to team up with another artist and work on a collective event. For more info, take a look here.
And finally...
I'm working on pieces that people have commissioned me to do - here's one that I've finished recently. It was a whole chart, a Vintage Admiralty from 1969. The customer chose to have 2 beach huts stitched, alongside the smack Pioneer that can often be seen off Mersea Island and Brightlingsea.
If you'd like to find out about commissioning a piece of original, nautical stitched art, take a look at how easy it is:
More next time...
But never miss out on any of the events held in our Sail Loft - take a look at our online calendar to see new events as they're added.
Until next time, I wish you calm waters and plain sailing
Sam
